Our October Artist of the Month is local artist Dina Holland. Dina's work can be seen on the Art Wall next to the New Books shelves.
Here she is in her own words:
"I hope you enjoy my artwork. My love of the islands and the sea is reflected in my paintings, evoking images of the beautiful seascapes, landscapes and tropical foliage of the islands. Having moved to the islands nearly forty years ago, my husband and I made Hawaii our home. We traveled extensively throughout the Pacific and have lived in the Mariana Islands, the Eastern Caroline Islands, and the Hawaiian Islands. Being an avid scuba diver, I found the underwater world to be a bountiful source of inspiration for my art and life.
I am mostly self-taught, with the assistance of classes here and there, and inspired by the works of artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe, Hong Leung, and Bob Ross, to name a few of the painters whose work I admire and endeavour to emulate. I have painted in watercolour, acrylic and oils, and have instructed classes in Guam, Mariana Islands and in Hawaii. My paintings have been exhibitied in business and government institutions and I have participated in various community and charity events.
In 2011 we retired from Hawaii and took a road trip across the mainland United States. We had a wonderful time and saw quite a bit of our beautiful country, ending back in the Pacific Northwest. We live in the beautiful little town of Wilsonville, about two hours drive from the Oregon Coast which must be one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, and I am capturing the beauty of Oregon in photographs and on canvas."
