Wilsonville High School is hosting its annual Day of the Dead Festival on Friday, November 1, 6-9 pm.
Attendees can expect to enjoy a beautiful and fantastic celebration that includes:
- Art Exhibition: Students are showcasing works inspired by Day of the Dead (such as altars, skulls, and marigolds) to honor deceased loved ones.
- Traditional Food: Food trucks like Blazing Tacos are selling Mexican food (such as tacos, gorditas, crunchy cheesy tacos, burritos, nachos, crunch wrap, bowls, meat quesadillas, birriamen, horchata, and piña colada).
- Face Painting: There are stations where people can decorate their face with designs resembling sugar skulls.
- Sugar Skull Decoration: Decorate sugar skulls with bright colors and glitter, keeping the festive spirit alive.
- Folkloric Dances: Dancers in traditional costumes are performing Mexican dances, celebrating life through music and movement.
- Mariachi: A live mariachi group is performing, bringing energy and joy with traditional Mexican music.
- Los Invencibles: This band, from Mountain View High in Vancouver, plays music norteño and bolero with influences such as rock and country.
- Dance of the Devils: Performers dressed as devils with masks and old clothes dance to the rhythm of drums. The dance represents a mix of African and Mexican traditions.
This festival is presented to bring the community together through art, food, and music, celebrating life while remembering those who are no longer with us.
