City Council Allocates $80,500 in Funding to Support Damaged Tree Rehabilitation or Removal
August 3, 2021 — At the August 2, 2021, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council approved the allocation of $80,500 in Community Enhancement funds at the recommendation of the Wilsonville-Metro Community Enhancement Committee. During this cycle, funding was allocated exclusively in support of projects that aid residents in grinding stumps, rehabilitating trees or cleaning up Significant Resource Overlay Zones damaged in February’s ice storm.
Additionally, the Council authorized the City’s use of an alternative contracting method to contract the Boeckman Road Corridor Project. The use of Progressive Design Build (PDB) contracting provides better coordination and collaboration on the Boeckman Dip Bridge project and three interconnected projects along the Boeckman Road corridor. The improved coordination yields cost savings on the project, which is scheduled to get underway in 2023.
During Mayor’s Business, the City Council extended the employment agreement with City Manager Bryan Cosgrove for four years, through June 2025. The Council noted Cosgrove’s fiscal management, team-building acumen and leadership navigating the City through the ongoing pandemic.
During Communications, the Council offered congratulations to 2021 graduates of the Citizens Academy, the City’s public engagement and education program that provides participants with an opportunity to learn about the City’s programs and operations, meet City staff and elected officials and network with other civic-minded community members.
The State’s reigning Miss Oregon Teen USA, Mikaela Ochocki of Wilsonville, spoke to the City Council to advance her platform, improved support for Oregon youth struggling with mental health challenges. Ochocki will represent Oregon at the Miss Teen USA pageant in November.
City Staff provided an update on the City’s “Explore Wilsonville” Tourism Promotion campaign designed to attract overnight visitors to enjoy Wilsonville’s hotels, restaurants, shops and attractions. The presentation detailed ExploreWilsonville.com’s five new recommended “Day Trip” itineraries.
At the work session held prior to the meeting, the City Council directed Planning staff to continue working to implement Vertical Housing Development Zones, a tool to provide developers with tax abatements that would incentivize the construction of mixed-use buildings – in Villebois and Wilsonville Town Center – that include residential units above ground-floor retail establishments.
The next regular meeting of the City Council is to be held on Monday, Aug. 16, at 7 pm; a pre-meeting work session is scheduled at 5 pm.
