September 23, 2019   — The Wilsonville City Council is seeking public input to help prioritize a number of new collection services that are being considered for inclusion in the City’s agreement with Republic Services, the community’s garbage and recycling franchised hauler.

New services under consideration include:

  • Residential Food Waste Program: allow kitchen food scraps to be collected with yard debris
  • Free Bulky Waste Pick-up for ADA/Senior Citizens: Wilsonville residents who have a disability or are older would have home pick-up of large/bulky waste items at no charge
  • Fluorescent Tubes Collection/Recycling: Republic Services would provide pre-paid shipping containers for specific types of fluorescent tubes for recycling by businesses
  • Styrofoam Collection/Recycling: Republic Services would set up a Styrofoam collection station for residents and commercial/industrial customers.
  • Wood Pallet Collection/Recycling: Republic Services would set up a wood-pallets collection station for commercial/industrial customers.

The addition of new services would not require any change in fees or rates. New collections would be designed to offset an increase in Republic Services operating margin above the range established in the new franchise agreement ordinance of 2018.

Anyone wishing to provide input is encouraged to visit LetsTalkWilsonville.com before Oct. 7 to rank potential new services in order of preference; participants can also recommend other service improvements.

Data collected during the survey is being presented to City Council before a decision is made upon which service(s) to pursue.
