City to Showcase I-5 Pedestrian Bridge Plan at Feb. 19 Open House

February 6, 2020 — Members of the Wilsonville community who are interested in learning more about the City’s plans to construct a pedestrian bridge over Interstate 5 are invited to attend an open house at City Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 5-8 pm.

Attendees may visit anytime during the three-hour window to speak with project managers, learn more about the proposal, and provide input on style and theme of the proposed I-5 Pedestrian Bridge. There is no formal presentation scheduled, and children are welcome.

The I-5 Pedestrian Bridge would provide safe, convenient passage for east-west travelers currently hindered by an Interstate highway that bisects the City.  Completing the bridge would achieve a City Council goal, support the 2019 Wilsonville Town Center Plan and establish an important connection between the Wilsonville Transit Center and high-tech employment centers east of the Interstate.

Beginning on the City’s west side, near the Transit Center at Barber Street, the bridge would extend over Boones Ferry Road and I-5, terminating at a newly-designed east side gateway plaza near Town Center Loop West. The plaza would be the first of an “emerald chain” of natural spaces that meanders through Town Center toward Murase Plaza to facilitate public gathering, active recreation and connection with the natural environment.

Project leaders seek community feedback on a possible theme , noting Wilsonville’s location as a regional landmark that welcomes northbound travelers into the Portland Metropolitan area and invites southbound travelers to enjoy the agriculturally rich Willamette Valley.

Visitors who cannot attend, but are interested in learning more and providing feedback on the I-5 Pedestrian Bridge can complete a brief survey on or after Feb. 19 at LetsTalkWilsonville.com/I5-Ped-Bridge.
