Wilsonville Leaf Drop-Off Day Set for Saturday, Nov. 17

November 5, 2018 — The City of Wilsonville and Republic Services host Wilsonville Leaf Drop-Off Day on Saturday, Nov. 17, 9 am-2 pm, at the City Hall parking lot, 29799 SW Town Center Loop E. 

The annual event is a component of Republic Services’ franchise agreement for solid-waste collection and disposal services with the City. No fee is charged. Instead, the City suggests that participants bring a cash or check donation to support Wilsonville Community Sharing, which operates the community food bank and helps provide social services for residents in need.

“Leaf Drop-Off Day provides a service to homeowners, and helps a trusted non-profit partner provide critical services for community members in need,” City Manager Bryan Cosgrove said. “The event also provides an incentive for people to remove leaves from roadways, which helps reduce flooding and keeps City roads safe.”

Public Works staff will be available to help residents deposit leaves into large dumpsters provided by Republic Services; no other yard debris can be accommodated.

The City recommends that residents collect and transport leaves in large recyclable paper bags, which are available at local hardware stores. All plastic bags must be emptied into dumpsters.

Deposited leaves are transported to a composting facility by Republic Services to be repurposed as nutrient-rich soil for local gardens and flower beds.

Before and after Leaf Drop-Off Day, residents may place leaves in their Republic Services yard waste carts, collected weekly.  Compacting leaves or other yard debris should be avoided, as overweight barrels may cause collection issues. A reminder that leaves are not to be raked into the street, as they may impact nearby storm drains, pollute storm water systems, contribute to flooding and create a road hazard for motorists and cyclists.
