Climate Action
The City of Wilsonville is committed to climate action. From wildfires, smoke, and consistently hotter summers to more frequent heavy rainfall events, we have begun to experience the effects of human-caused climate change right here at home. These changes can impact our way of life, including our health, our ecosystems, and our businesses.
By taking adaptive action, we can prepare for and respond to these changing conditions to protect our friends, family, and neighbors. We can also take steps to reduce our fossil fuel emissions in order to prevent an even more drastic change in climate conditions.
The City of Wilsonville is creating a Climate Action Plan to address the current and future impacts of climate change within city limits and the region at large.
Specifically, the Climate Action Plan will:
- Help Wilsonville adapt to and lessen the impacts of climate change.
- Develop strategies for responding to rising temperatures, increased threat of wildfires and flooding, and strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
- Prioritize those who have historically been left out of public planning and who are often the first and worst impacted by climate change.
- Measure the environmental and economic costs, social impacts, and potential benefits to the community for each proposed action to guide decision-making. It will also show what conditions will be like if nothing were done.
Upon City Council’s adoption of the plan, the City will begin working with community members, businesses, and local partners to implement the strategies and actions outlined in the plan. While climate change represents a global challenge, if we act now, we can help create a resilient and thriving community in Wilsonville.
