November 16, 2021 — At the November 15, 2021, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council adopted a resolution that reduces garbage collection rates for all Wilsonville residential, commercial and industrial customers. Additionally, a temporary recycling surcharge is being eliminated due to recovery of the domestic recycling market.

This action follows the City’s annual rate review audit, which calculated Republic Services’ rate of return to have exceeded the 8-12 percent range stipulated in the franchise agreement. Revised rates, which reduce the cost of roll cart service by an average of 4.7 percent for residential customers, go into effect on Jan. 1.

November 2, 2021 — At the November 1, 2021, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the Council approved a $480,000 contract with Murraysmith, Inc., to coordinate upcoming construction activities along the Boeckman Road Corridor (BRC).

Four inter-connected capital projects are scheduled on Boeckman Road to support the development of the Frog Pond neighborhoods, including the construction of the Boeckman Dip Bridge. In August, the Council approved an alternative contracting method, Progressive Design Build, to deliver these complex and environmentally-sensitive projects more efficiently.

The Council also passed a resolution that adopts new Oregon residential building codes. Taking this action ensures that Wilsonville structures continue to meet accepted safety standards and that application of codes is consistent with that in neighboring jurisdictions....

November 1, 2021 — Wilsonville Parks and Recreation is coordinating the City’s eighth annual toy drive to provide some holiday cheer for neighbors in-need.

Until Dec. 8, residents are encouraged to purchase and drop off new, unwrapped toys at the Parks & Recreation Admin. Building on weekdays between 8 am and 5 pm.  Donations can also be dropped at Wilsonville Orthodontics, 9475 SW Wilsonville Rd., Monday-Thursday (hours vary). October 28, 2021 — The City of Wilsonville, in partnership with Republic Services, is hosting its annual Leaf Drop-Off Day on Saturday, Nov. 20, 9 am–2 pm.

Wilsonville residents are invited to drop-off leaves only — no other yard debris, please! — at the City Hall parking lot, 29799 SW Town Center Loop East.

City Public Works staff will be on hand to provide guidance, but participants must be able to offload leaves without assistance into large dumpsters provided by Republic Services. Motorists must wear masks and follow any additional COVID-19 safety protocols as directed.

The City recommends that residents gather leaves in large, recyclable paper bags that are available from most hardware stores; plastic bags are non-recyclable and should be avoided.

October 27, 2021 — Memorial Park’s nature play area — the first play area of its kind in Wilsonville — is now open to the public.  The City’s most unique playground is a 12,000-square-foot natural wonderland that sparks imaginative play among children, providing a natural setting in which they can build, imagine, explore and create.

Wilsonville’s newest park amenity is located down the road from the Memorial Park River Shelter, set at the edge of the mature forest that runs parallel to the Willamette River.

“We are proud and excited to open a new park play area that we believe the entire community will really love and appreciate,” Parks Supervisor Dustin Schull said. “This nature play area provides a new opportunity for the community to connect and interact with nature in a unique and imaginative way.”

October 12, 2021 — Wilsonville’s Parks & Recreation Department is celebrating the season with the return of the annual Fall Harvest Festival, a family-friendly outdoor event on the grounds of Memorial Park. The fun takes place from 10 am to 1 pm this Saturday, Oct. 16, in and around the Stein-Boozier Barn.

In the spirit of the season, community members are invited to don their costumes and enjoy pumpkin decorating, live acoustic music from Hushfire, a live Storytime performance, a costume parade and several other fun activities. Coffee and donuts are available for purchase from Divine Donuts.

“We had to get creative to develop a fun family-friendly event that maintains fall traditions while also remaining mindful of social distancing,” Recreation Coordinator Erica Behler said. “By adding a few new activities and moving beyond the barn, we’re giving people more ground to move around and explore.”

October 7, 2021 – The City of Wilsonville is once again collaborating with Shred-It to allow residents and business operators to safely dispose of sensitive paper documents.  The one-time paper-shredding event takes place on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 9 am to 2 pm in the City Hall parking lot.

The City’s Public Works staff and Shred-It have established “contactless” protocols to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19. Residents are instructed to unload their paper documents into large recycling bins. Full bins are rolled to one of two Shred-It trucks, where the contents are immediately shredded.

There is no charge for this service. Instead, the City is asking participants to make an on-site cash or check donation to Wilsonville Community Sharing, which operates the local food bank and provides social services for community members in need.

September 27, 2021  — The City of Wilsonville is providing 500 free kitchen compost buckets to support residents who have an interest in recycling food scraps.

The Wilsonville-Metro Community Enhancement Program is funding the giveaway of the durable compost buckets as well as educational workshops that illustrate the benefits of recycling and composting.

Kitchen compost buckets make it easy to collect food scraps for composting. Toss food scraps in the bucket and — when the bucket is full — deposit scraps in your Republic Services yard debris bin for curbside removal.

The 1.3-gallon buckets are made of high-quality carbon steel that does not rust, stain or retain odors. They are dishwasher safe and conveniently-sized to keep on the countertop or under the sink. A light-lock lid and two activated-charcoal filters help trap and absorb odors.

August 25, 2021 – The City of Wilsonville is collaborating with local non-profit Friends of Trees for two community street tree planting events to help residential communities recover from tree damage that occurred during February’s ice storm.

For $35 per tree, registrants may select a street tree from a pre-approved list of varieties; the City is covering the balance of the planting costs. Street trees are those trees generally located in front or side yards, or between curbs and public sidewalks on residential streets.

These planting events are scheduled to take place on Oct. 23 and Dec. 4. Residents must sign up for the Oct. 23 event before Sept. 11 at 5 pm. See the list of trees available, and sign up at friendsoftrees.org/get-a-tree/.
