November 17, 2020  — At the November16, 2020, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the City Council adopted the Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy to advance the City’s aspirations for a more vibrant cultural scene. Recommendations, informed by extensive public outreach and a 42-member task force, include the establishment of an Arts and Culture Commission and a new City staff position to manage arts- and tourism-related activities.

On second reading, the City Council adopted amendments to the City’s Transportation System Plan. This update incorporates new projects from the adopted 2019 Wilsonville Town Center Plan, including upgrades of arterial streets and the development of infrastructure to support cyclists and pedestrians.

Following public health guidance from the Oregon Health Authority, the Governor’s office, and Wilsonville’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the library will adopt the following new safety measures to protect visitors and Library staff starting Wednesday, November 18:

November 3, 2020 — At the November 2, 2020, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the City Council adopted amendments to the City’s Transportation System Plan. This update incorporates new projects from the adopted 2019 Wilsonville Town Center Plan, including upgrades of arterial streets and the development of infrastructure to support cyclists and pedestrians.

The Council also adopted a resolution to discontinue SMART’s Charbonneau Shuttle after a two-year pilot program because of low ridership. Once the shuttle is discontinued in early December, SMART is able to serve the Charbonneau neighborhood more efficiently through its Dial-a-Ride service and other transportation options.

Additionally, the Council continued, to Nov. 16, consideration of Development Review Board resolution No. 382, which authorizes the construction of a six-unit townhome in Old Town.

October 26, 2020 — The City of Wilsonville is recruiting applicants interested in serving on the City boards and commissions that provide guidance and oversight to City programs.

New terms begin in January 2021 for 13 open positions on four City boards. The volunteers who serve on these boards attend evening meetings (typically once a month) and assist in making policy recommendations to the City Council.

“These engaged community members contribute leadership, innovation and critical community oversight to Wilsonville,” Wilsonville Mayor Tim Knapp said. “Anyone passionate about contributing their expertise to help us sustain our high quality of life in Wilsonville should consider applying.”

October 20, 2020 — At the October 19, 2020, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the City Council adopted administrative rules for Wilsonville Investment Now (WIN), an Economic Development program that seeks to incentivize family-wage businesses to operate in Wilsonville by providing property-tax rebates for qualifying development projects outside of the City’s existing urban renewal areas. 

The first program of its kind in Oregon, WIN aims to attract high-value investments from a wide range of businesses. The program’s flexible evaluation criteria provides multiple tiers of benefit, including rewards for Wilsonville-owned business and those prioritizing diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. The Council’s action allows staff to promote the program, and to bring back site-specific applications for City Council consideration upon receipt.

October 15, 2020 – The City’s brand new off-leash dog run at Memorial Park is opening to the public this Friday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 am. Effective Saturday, the park’s daily operating hours are 5 am to 10 pm.

Located near the park’s new community garden and an adjacent paved parking lot that accommodates 30+ vehicles, the relocated dog park is accessible from Wilsonville Rd. via Kolbe Ln.

“Our Parks and Recreation staff has put in countless hours of work to build a first-class park,” said Parks & Recreation Director Mike McCarty. “The result is the nicest dog park I’ve ever seen, in a beautiful location, with permanent restrooms, a dog-washing station and other amenities that Wilsonville residents and their pets can enjoy for a long time.”

The new space has been designed with two separate fenced runs: a half-acre area for small and/or timid dogs, and nearly 1.5 acres for large and/or active dogs. Both runs are double-gated.

October 8, 2020 — The City of Wilsonville’s draft Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy is now available for public comment, through Tuesday, Oct. 20, at ci.Wilsonville.or.us/ArtsCultureStrategy.  The City Council is scheduled to discuss the draft strategy during  its Oct. 19 work session, which begins at 5 pm.

The largest advisory committee in the City’s history, the 42-member Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy (ACHS) Task Force, met online three times this summer to provide input on findings and recommendations that form the basis of the ACHS. City Councilors Charlotte Lehan and Joann Linville served as Council liaisons to the City Manager-appointed Task Force, which included area residents active or interested in advancing arts, culture and heritage activities, events and programs.

October 6, 2020  — At the October 5, 2020, meeting of the Wilsonville City Council, the City Council adopted a resolution to select a preferred bridge concept, plaza type and priority elements to be included in the preliminary design of the I-5 Pedestrian Bridge and Gateway Plaza.

The Council’s action affirms the recommendations of the City’s Planning Commission, which was informed by input from three community open houses and a public survey of nearly 300 community stakeholders. The decision enables project managers to begin preliminary work on a preferred design that features an iconic “tied arch” bridge.
