February 6, 2020 — Members of the Wilsonville community who are interested in learning more about the City’s plans to construct a pedestrian bridge over Interstate 5 are invited to attend an open house at City Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 5-8 pm.

Attendees may visit anytime during the three-hour window to speak with project managers, learn more about the proposal, and provide input on style and theme of the proposed I-5 Pedestrian Bridge. There is no formal presentation scheduled, and children are welcome.

The I-5 Pedestrian Bridge would provide safe, convenient passage for east-west travelers currently hindered by an Interstate highway that bisects the City.  Completing the bridge would achieve a City Council goal, support the 2019 Wilsonville Town Center Plan and establish an important connection between the Wilsonville Transit Center and high-tech employment centers east of the Interstate.

February 4, 2020 — During the February 3, 2020, Wilsonville City Council meeting, the Council discussed a term-limit initiative petition that gathered a sufficient number of signatures to be placed on the May 2020 election ballot.  The measure would amend the Wilsonville City Charter to prohibit any person from serving as mayor, city councilor, or any combination of both, for more than 12 years in any 20-year period.

The Council unanimously backed an ordinance to include a neutral explanatory statement about the ballot measure in the voters’ pamphlet, and chose not to draft a competing ballot measure, as allowed by law. Four Council members expressed concerns about the potential effects of the measure, while one councilor spoke in favor.

January 24, 2020 — During the Jan. 23, 2020, Wilsonville City Council meeting, the  Council discussed a number of issues during work session.

City Building Official Dan Carlson outlined the results of a recent income and expense analysis that showed current building permit and plan review fees are not covering their costs. Last raised 14 years ago in 2006, a proposed fee increase in 2020 would make Wilsonville building permit and plan review fees equivalent with the average fees in nearby jurisdictions. Additionally, the Council appeared to favor a proposal to tie fees with annual changes to the Seattle Construction Cost Index or similar construction costs-related inflation index.

November 5, 2019  — During the November 4 Wilsonville City Council meeting, the Council passed a resolution to support a grant application that aids the City’s equitable housing efforts.

If successful, a $181,500 Technical Assistance Grant from Oregon Dept. of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD) would fund technical support services for the “Wilsonville Housing Variety Implementation Project.” The project would address barriers to development of different types of housing to make home ownership more attainable to more people while satisfying “middle housing” requirements mandated by the 2019 passage of House Bill 2001. The project would support the City’s Equitable Housing Strategic Plan, and include focus on future development in the Frog Pond South and East areas.
