A special Poetry Month program by nationally recognized cowboy poet Tom Swearingen. A fun and entertaining introduction to cowboy poetry and its use of rhythm and rhyme to communicate stories of the west.
Tom will perform several of his poems. Often inspired by his own time in the saddle, Swearingen’s poetry ranges from reflective to humorous. Born in the early trail-driving days following the Civil War, with roots in literature popular in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, cowboy poetry is a cultural tradition that continues with contemporary poems being written and performed today.
