State Grant to Fund Teen Library Intern

April 11, 2023 – The Wilsonville Public Library has been awarded a $5,000 grant by the State Library of Oregon to fund the hiring of a teenager to serve as the Library’s summer intern.

The internship has been posted on the City of Wilsonville’s Job Opportunities page; interested candidates may apply online until April 24. The Wilsonville Library seeks to fill the position by June, with the internship continuing through the end of August.

The Library’s internship provides a unique opportunity for a motivated teen to gain valuable work experience in Library Services.  With support from a Library staff mentor, the intern develops and implements a community-based project that matches the student’s interests and supports the Library’s priorities.

“We are very excited to welcome a local teen who is eager to share their talents and interests in support of Library programs,” said Brad Clark, librarian and teen intern mentor. “The program is a great learning opportunity, and it improves our service to the community.”

This is the second year that the Teen Internship Grant has been offered by the State Library, which administers the federally-funded Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) program. Grants are distributed to each state by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

“One of our strategic plan goals is to expand the programs, resources and activities that are available for teens,” said Library Director Shasta Sasser. “This timely grant supports this goal and provides a great opportunity for a Wilsonville teen.”
