Housing our Future
Part of what makes Wilsonville a desirable community is its history of thoughtful and innovative residential planning. Wilsonville strives to be a community where residents and employees can afford to rent an apartment, buy a starter home, trade-up to a large home, downsize to a smaller home and then enjoy retirement in a home that allows them to age in place without ever leaving town.
Housing is more than just a place to live. For many, housing is also a place to work or a place to learn. Given this, access to housing is foundational to family success. Affordable, stable housing can help families meet their basic needs and build financial reserves for unforeseen expenses. Providing diverse housing sizes and types can help accommodate the many different households that might wish to locate in Wilsonville in the future, including households that have been historically excluded. Locating housing close to services, transit, parks, civic buildings, and retail opportunities can increase quality of life.
In 2020, City Council adopted the Equitable Housing Strategic Plan, which serves as a framework to organize the City’s future efforts to promote equitable housing outcomes. The Plan includes five prioritized actions for the City to begin to implement in the first two years after Plan adoption, as well as additional actions for the City to consider in the long term.
Building on this work, the Housing Our Future project will assess the City’s housing needs over the next 20 years and determine what actions the City can take to help meet them. The project’s goal is to identify policies and actions to chart the course for a future where Wilsonville’s housing remains attainable and sustainable.
